Hispanic Public Media Foundation Internship Program

Hispanic Public Media Foundation is looking for bilingual (English/Spanish) media students who would be interested in becoming interns at Hispanic Public Radio; a radio station broadcast over the Internet at www.SpanishPublicRadio.org that has built a collaborative effort between a network of college and public radio stations in the US, Canada, Mexico, Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe. HPM studios are located at: National Autonomous University of Mexico, 350 W. Erie suite 100 Chicago, IL. 60654. HPM will broadcast programming with a high cultural content, including Education including topics such as: Health, Social, Cultural, Economic Analysis, Community Activities, Arts and Recreation. It will also stream music from various genres like; Jazz, classical music, Latin American rhythms and world music. Content will be provided by scholars and experts through our collaborating partners from other US, Latin American, Caribbean, and European universities and organizations around the world. Again, HPMF is looking for energetic interns who can work a flexible schedule of 10-20 hours a week. The internship can be extended depending on the skills of the interns. Interns must be available at least two days a week and one day on the weekend, depending on their school schedule and the number of hours required by the school to receive credit.
An intern’s activities will consist of:
  • Assisting in daily production
  • Preparing research
  • Pre-interviewing of potential guests
  • Creating and writing on air material
  • Updating the website with video uploading
  • Video production and editing
  • Sending information to partners in media and community
  • Conducting interviews
  • Participating on air
  • Operating on the board
  • Producing audio and editing interviews
Profile of an Intern
A specialization that best suits the internship between media, communications, journalism, public relations or social work. Interns must be prepared to speak into a microphone or make other public speeches and must have an interest in music, radio, and communications. Oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish are required. Interns must be fluent enough in Spanish to assist with interviews and contribute comments on air. Interns must have computer skills in Microsoft Office and desktop publishing programs. The internship is unpaid, but interns are eligible to receive transportation stipends based on 20 hours per week, in addition to having the opportunity to receive professional hands-on experience working at an international broadcasting company with a strong community service orientation.
